The reason for taping is usually injury recovery or injury prevention. To do this right you need to know your injuries, risks and how to treat them, this requires knowledge. Consult your physician, physical therapist or other relevant professional to learn about your condition and how to treat it. No tape can in any way replace professional advice!
Amp up your knowledge about the ligaments in your hands. Knowing the machanics of it will help you understand how different grips give different loads on the ligaments and this may change the way you climb or assess the risks of injury while climbing. This knowledge can help you prevent injuries a lot better than any tape can.
Scientific research have busted the myth of tape being an adequate direct support for the tendons and ligaments in your fingers. No tape can give support like tendons and ligaments.
Tape can only add a fractional support to the ligaments themselves. The most significant benefit taping can give your fingers is to reduce mobility so that the extreme loads on the ligaments are prohibited. The tape may also serve as a reminder, telling you mid climb that you need to be careful with your current condition and be mindfull not to cause (more) damage.
